Fortress of A Muslim – 19/6/13
Daily dua and adhkar is referred to as “the Fortress of the Muslims”. What does this mean?
Fortress = a defense which is impenetrable, heavily protected building.
So what is the building we are protecting?
Faith is Imaan.
Why are we trying to protect our imaan?
Our imaan is the most valuable thing we have. Shaytaan attacks our imaan from various angles and tries to steal it.
Each of these circles is a protective sphere. Fardh acts protect our imaan, emphasised sunnahs (actions that if regularly left may be sinful, such as not doing sunnahs of wudhu and only washing once etc) protect our fardh actions, and so on.
1st precious thing is imaan,
2nd precious thing fardh
if Shaytaan cannot attack this, as it has a protective circle around it, then he will attack the next most important circle which is fardh.
Therefore the more lines of defense we have protecting our imaan, the stronger our defence against the attacks of Shaytaan.
If we don’t have these protective circles then shaytaan has a clear path to our imaan.
3rd precious thing Sunnah; if we remember our Sunnah, we will not forget our fardh.
4th precious thing adhab.
When we say only adhab, only sunnah is not important, then we have broken the barriers, and it is easy for us to relax and forget fardh and to relax and forget imaan.
Everything brought by Muhammad SAW has worth to it.
What are we protecting against?
The adkhar are part of the circle which includes sunnah acts Adhkar are those duas that are authentically narrated from the prophet alayhis salam and cover protection from all things. I advise you to buy a book called “The Fortress Of A Muslim” – a lot of them are in here)
the Adhkar (invocations and remembrances said at certain times on a regular basis) which are ordained by Allah. Plural of dhikr.
Benefits of Adhkar.
– keep Shaitan away from the person who recites them,
– prevent the evil from mankind and jinn from harming such people.
The person who recites these Adhkar on a daily basis builds around himself a fortress to protect himself from his enemy.
Unfortunately, most Muslims today are ignorant of these Adhkar, and very few recite them on a daily basis. As a result, we see many Muslims constantly falling victim to Shaitan and his associates from mankind and jinn, living in misery and depression all their lives
Most of them can be found among the ruins and dilapidated areas, as well as the places where there are many impure things, such as, bathrooms, hashish dens, garbage dumps, the places of the camels, cemeteries.
Ibn Taimiyyah – those people who are close to Satan usually inhibit such areas.
hadith – say that one should not pray in bathrooms due to the impurities present and because it is the abode of Satan, or in cemeteries as this leads to polytheism and it is also a home for the devils.
A Muslim should seek refuge with Allah (‘Azza wa Jalla) upon entering the toilet, because Satan takes advantage of the Muslim’s presence in the toilet in order to in this filthy place which is the home of Satanic Jinn.
“ One day, a Jinn informed methat he entered and possessed a person because he did not seek refuge in Allah uponentering the toilet. However, Allah supported me in driving him out of that person. Furthermore, one Jinn told me that Allah(‘Azza wa Jalla) has given us a strong weapon to conquer them, but we do not use it. I asked him what was it, and he said, ‘the invocations laid down by the Prophet (Peace and Blessing upon Him)
Personal hygiene is extremely important. Not only is it an integral part of faith to be clean and fresh, it is also directly linked with shayateen..
This is why we make the duaa before entering the bathroom “o Allah I seek refuge in you from the male and female unclean evil spirits”
When someone is possessed, one of the signs is that their personal hygiene will deteriorate. The person may refuse to shower or make wudhu. The shayateen hate places of purity, so let’s make our hearts and bodies a place of purity, filled with the remembrance of Allah. May Allah guide us to purity.
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) gave the following advice to one of his Companions,
The devils live in the same houses in which people live. One can stop them from entering or repel them from such houses by remembering or mentioning Allaah (dhikr), reciting the Qur’aan, in particular, surah al-Baqara and Aayatul Kursee (verse 255 of that surah).
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) stated that the devils spread out and roam about increasingly when the dark first comes, and, therefore, he has advised Muslims to bring in their children during that period of time. (AI-Bukhari & Muslim).
And the devils run away from the call to prayer and cannot stand listening to it. And in the month of Ramadhaan they are chained.
This is why we have recommended adkhar to make as protection when entering and leaving the bathroom, when entering the market place, when hearing the adhaan. We should not take things such as displaying pictures in our houses and the like, lightly.
Regularly reciting the Adhkar for morning and evening
-One of the greatest means of protecting oneself against witchcraft.
– prevent against witchcraft before it happens, protecting one against it and warding off its evil, and remedying it if it does happen.
Ibn Al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
“Among the most effective divinely-prescribed remedies for witchcraft, indeed the only thing that works, for the effects of evil souls and warding off their effects can only be by means of that which opposes and resists them, namely Dhikr, the Qur’anic Verses and Du’as which cancel out their actions and effects. The stronger they are the further they will spread. This is like the meeting of two armies, each of which has its equipment and weapons with it; whichever of them overpowers the other and subdues it will emerge the victor.”
If the heart is filled with remembrance of Allah and has Du’as, Dhikrs, prayers for refuge which it never fails to recite, in which the person focuses with his heart and mind, this will be one of the greatest means of warding off witchcraft before it strikes and it is one of the greatest remedies for it after it has struck.
the Prophet (Peace and Blessing upon Him) said:
“… and I enjoin you to remember Allah, for this is like a man who is being pursued by the enemy, then he comes to a strong fortress and saves himself from them. Similarly a man cannot save himself from the Shaytan except by means of Dhikr.” Narrated byAhmad in Al-Musnad, 408/202; Al-Tirmidhi, no.2867. This is a Sahih Hadith
What can happen if we don’t say these adkhar?
The Jinn wait for these opportunities.
The jinn referred to here are non muslim, bad jinn under the control of shaytaan, not Muslim Jinn.
Narrated Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him)
We came to eat and a girl came as if she was being pushed (or impelled) forward and she went to put her hand in the food, but the messenger alayhis-salam grabbed her hand. Then a bedouin man came and it was as if he was being pushed (or impelled) forward, but the prophet (alayhis-salam) seized his hand and said:
“The Shaitan considers it permissible for himself to eat from the food over which the name of Allah is not mentioned; and he has come with this slave-girl trying to make lawful food for himself, and I grabbed her hand, and with this Bedouin man, trying to eat, and I grabbed his hand. By He who my soul is in His Hand, his hand and her hand are both in my hand.” (Collected by Muslim, 2017) (Mentioned in Zaad Al Ma’ad)
Jaabir (R.A.) narrates that Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) stated that when a man enters his home and makes Dhikr (remembers Allah) and also makes Dhikr at meal times, then Satan says to his colleagues that the night cannot be spent there nor can they partake of the peoples food and if no Dhikr was made on entering the house, then Satan says to his colleagues that they have an opportunity to spend the night there and if no Dhikr was made at meal times, then Satan tells his colleagues that they will be able to stay there and also get food.
(Mishkat, Chapter on food)
Women should wake up at fajr time and do the relevant adhkar even if they are not praying in order to protect themselves. So you wake up, say your adhkar and then go back to sleep. An added benefit of this is that you will be training your body to wake up at this time.
When you take your clothes off, say bismillah. This is especially important for sisters because the jinn can fall in love with a person based on their physical beauty
Use dua and adhkar the way you use paracetamol, infact, more often than that.
Every believing man and woman should read Adhkar and supplications for refuge and protection regularly at their appointed times. Muslims have to show humbleness and sincerity to Allah (may He be Exalted)while doing such readings. They have to put their trust in Him (Glorified and Exalted be He) for He is the One Who manages every thing, Who knows every thing, and Who is able to do every thing. There is neither deity nor Lord but Him (Glorified be He), in Whose Hand is giving, depriving, benefitting and harming, and Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) is the Owner of everything.
